1

First 72 Hours: Assessment & Foundation

Within your first three days, you'll complete a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment. Your treatment team — led by Clinical Director Henry Iwuala and Medical Director Dr. Michael Olla — creates a personalized treatment plan built around your specific history, needs, and goals.

2

Weeks 1–2: Stabilization

The focus is on crisis stabilization and building daily rhythm. You'll begin process groups, start individual therapy sessions (1-2 per week), and learn foundational coping skills. If MAT is appropriate, medication is initiated under medical supervision.

3

Weeks 3–4: Deepening the Work

With stability established, therapy goes deeper. Trauma processing begins (EMDR, DBT), wellness activities become part of your routine, and case management addresses real-world concerns: employment, housing, legal matters.

4

Weeks 4–6: Transition Planning

As you approach step-down, the Wednesday treatment team meeting reviews your progress. Together, you'll plan the transition to IOP or outpatient, ensuring continuity of care. You'll leave with a concrete relapse prevention plan and ongoing support structure.

Sober Living Coordination

Our case management team helps connect you with quality sober living homes in Bergen County and the surrounding area. A stable environment outside treatment hours is crucial for sustained recovery.

Family Support & Together We Heal

Family therapy is integrated into treatment. Our Together We Heal program is a 6-session family workshop open to anyone — not just Valley Spring patients. Recovery is a team effort.

Employment & Legal Support

Your case manager handles FMLA paperwork, disability documentation, return-to-work planning, and court/DUI coordination. We remove the barriers so you can focus on healing.

Sleep Specialist Access

Valley Spring is one of only 10 treatment centers in New Jersey with a dedicated sleep specialist. Quality sleep is foundational to recovery — we take it seriously.
