What to Expect on Intake Day
Your intake appointment is designed to be welcoming, thorough, and efficient. Here is exactly what happens when you arrive.

Warm Welcome & Meet Your Coordinator

A Program Coordinator (Ron Lopez or Cameron Kennedy) personally greets you at the door. No clipboards first -- they get to know you as a person before any paperwork begins.

Facility Tour & Orientation

Walk through our treatment spaces, group rooms, and common areas. Your coordinator explains the daily structure and answers every question you have.

Consent Forms & Intake Paperwork

Complete consent forms, review your rights and responsibilities, and handle the necessary administrative paperwork in a private setting.

Urine Drug Screening

A standard clinical screening to help our medical team understand your current state and develop the safest treatment plan.

Biopsychosocial Assessment

A comprehensive ~1-hour assessment with a therapist/case manager covering your history, needs, and goals. This is the foundation of your individualized treatment plan.

Level of Care Determination & Start Date

Based on your assessment, the clinical team determines whether Partial Care, IOP5, or IOP3 is right for you. Your start date is set -- often the very next day.

Admissions Questions
Answers to the most common questions we hear from clients and families during the admissions process.
Most clients begin treatment the same day or the next day after completing the admissions process. Our clinical team provides approval within 1 hour, and our admissions team calls back within 24 hours to schedule your intake.
Bring your insurance card, a valid photo ID, and any current medications in their original containers. If you have medical records or referral paperwork from a previous treatment provider, bring those as well. Comfortable clothing is recommended.
Absolutely. Every step of our admissions process is 100% confidential. We are bound by federal HIPAA regulations and 42 CFR Part 2, which provides additional privacy protections specific to substance use treatment. Your information is never shared without your written consent.
No. Valley Spring is an outpatient-only facility. We do not provide detox, residential, or inpatient services. Most of our Partial Care clients are stepping down from inpatient or residential settings. If you need detox or residential care, our admissions team can help connect you with appropriate providers.
Some portions of the admissions process can be completed virtually on a case-by-case basis. The initial phone screening and insurance verification are always done remotely. For the full intake assessment, an in-person visit is typically required, but speak with our admissions team about your specific situation.
We accept 16 major insurance providers. If you are uninsured or your plan is not in our network, call our admissions team at (201) 781-8812. They can discuss options and help you explore coverage possibilities including marketplace plans and other resources.
During your intake, a therapist or case manager conducts a comprehensive biopsychosocial assessment (approximately 1 hour). Based on this assessment, the clinical team determines whether Partial Care (PHP), IOP5, or IOP3 is the most appropriate starting point. This is based on your symptom presentation, functional status, and individual needs -- not a one-size-fits-all formula.
Yes. Family members are welcome to call our admissions line at (201) 781-8812 to ask questions, learn about the process, and start a conversation. Our admissions team works closely with families and can guide you through the best way to support your loved one in taking the next step.
